I tried to google up this picture but was unable to find it. Those of you who remember, you know the one. Those that are too young...make a picture of your own.

Another image I would call us to today is the photo decades ago in (I think) LIFE magazine of a young woman, dressed in hippie garb, her long hair streaming, a garland on her head, placing a flower in the muzzle of the bayoneted rifle held by a National Guardsman in full war regalia.

Where have all the flowers gone? And can we do something to bring them back?




Last night in Kalamazoo, 10 blocks from my apartment, Joan Baez was performing. I wish I had been there.
