Loc: Louisville, Kentucky Well, that's really good, eta. I had some of that "voiced velar fricative" stuff in college. But I think this is going to be more complicated than I'm going to want to fool with, learning all those curlicues and all. I enjoyed learning a couple of new words: pulmonic and apical. One of the terms made me grin: "Creaky voiced". If I wanted to undertake a study intensive enough to learn all of these, I think I'd need to hear them, so I could associate the sound with its correct symbol.

Loc: Vermont well, it will make it wasier®(way easier?) for us to define a particular sound. we could link to a sound page; no confusion about what is that sound?

I would use this vowel sound:
http://www.ling.hf.ntnu.no/ipa/full/snd/IPA314.mp3
or if scone:

Loc: Louisville, Kentucky Awk--clicking on your links, eta, makes my windows media player open, but it opens with a little blue box that tells me it has already reached the end of the file.
