here's a word that didn't show up at m-w, but I found this on info-please:

the point at which the stars of a binary system are farthest apart (opposed to periastron).

Dear etaoin: Complex, but fascinating. Amazing that such a system can be so stable.
I can't pretend that I fully comprehended it, but it was fun trying.
