Text of a message sent to Richard Lederer:

Dear Richard,

Fjord bank cwm glyphs vext quiz.

You can check all the words, including the spelling "vext" and the use of the word "quiz" to mean "eccentric person" at http://www.m-w.com/ .

As for making easy sense, in my own experience it has nearly happened.

- I have for many years tried to acquire the reputation of an eccentric genius. My friends tell me that I have achieved 50% success.

- I have often been annoyed by marks carved into stone.

- I have seen the banks of several fjords.

It's only a matter of time.

Regards,
Ron Davis

Last week's puzzle on National Public Radio's Weekend Edition (Sunday) was for a pangram involving a famous name. Entires were judged on meaning, syntax and overall elegance; the shorter, the better.

The winning entry was G. W. BUSH QUICKLY FIXED PRIZE JAM ON TV . Not sure how meaningful this is, or how elegant, but hey -- the guy who runs these contests in the NY Times's crossword puzzle editor, so there you have it:
