Oh, but I must weigh in on this thread. "Hallux" is, of course, the medical term for the lower proximal phallange. My handle is a creative misspelling.

As a falconer, I chose it to imply the austringer's connotation: the large hind talon of a falcon or hawk--- the one that pierces the heart of her prey.
