Warning! Food related postJust received....one package from Australia....air mailed to Buffalo, NY. Contents of said package? [pink]Musk Sticks and Musk flavored Life Savers[/pink]! Carefully opening package...gotta try a Musk Stick first. Looks just like the package in the link we had in the earlier thread. http://wordsmith.org/board/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=announcements&Number=51999&page=2&view=collapsed&sb=5 Hmmmmmm....smells musky. Oh, yeah, they are musk. About 5 inches long and pink. The consistency of a circus peanut. A bit soft, not hard. Sweet, but not a flavor I can describe. I can see why they say they are an acquired taste!  The Life Savers are not clear like a cherry Life Saver, but like a cloudy pink Life Saver. Both leave a very strange after taste, but seem to get sweeter the longer you suck on them. Anyway, wanted you all to experience them as close to first hand as you could! Sorry, they will be gone by Wordapalooza! The longer I taste them, the more I like them! And I don't think the open package will last for another three months.  And if you have any notion to try to get them from an Aussie friend...they were postmarked on March 26 and I got them today. They came airmail. One package musk sticks and four rolls of Life Savers in a padded bag and cost $11.50 Australian to mail to me. And no, they did not come from a member of AWAD.

OmiGod....you got a FOOD PACKAGE from AUSTRALIA! You are sooooo lucky.....But wade a minnit.....It didn't include Tim Tams. How remiss of your friends! Ask them to put a package in the next time they feel charitable and will send you a care package. The best choccie biccies in the WORLD!

Ah yes. The renowned Tim Tam Slam, aka the Chocolate Orgasm.
Bite off opposing corners of biscuit; dip in tea (or hot beverage of choice - some lushes prefer port but I could not make this work to my satisfaction!) and suck until you feel the tea coming through. Lob whole thing in mouth and feel it dissolve there. Aaaahhhhhhhhhh.....
The first time I learned about this was from a tour guide in Far North Queensland, who demonstrated the trick for our group. Others looked dubious but I boldly stepped forward to be the first to try it. When I did, the look on my face made everyone else on the tour lunge for the Tim Tam packet....
Angel, if you are a chocolate lover ("if?"!!), you MUST get some! For some reason best known to the makers of Tim Tams (and Life Savers, who do the same ridiculous thing), they come in packets of....11. So hoard them, or share them with 10 of your closest friends. (Why don't they - and Life Savers - make packets of 12? divisible by 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12? so much fairer and more equitable and peace-keeping and all them thar things that make the world a better place!)
Alas, I do not have any, nor do I know of where in Canada one might buy them - apart from somewhere in Vancouver. I couldn't resist popping in to the Thorn Tree on the Lonely Planet site last night, and there was a discussion going on about how/where to get Tim Tams in Canada. Someone found them in Van. I asked her where; if she has posted the info there I'll put it here, should anyone else be innerested....
Ah, sweet Tim Tams, ambrosial biccies/straws.....Mmmmm.

TimTams are very good, but not unique. In England they have 'Penguins' which are in essence the same thing.
Australia is the Mecca for junk food, though:
Strawberries 'n' Creams, Bananas, Pineapples, Ruffles/Samboy Chips, Kool Mints, Redskins, Chocos, Choc Milk, the list goes on!

Class Cynic checking in here.
I suspect they _did_ once upon a time, and then the downsize-the-product-to-save-money process picked up speed. There was only so much they could make the objects smaller without inciting consumer revolt, and eventually the number-in-a-package had to be reduced too, and here we are.
Anyone seen a one-pound can of coffee lately? Or maybe a one-pound jar of peanut butter? LOL. I stopped counting at 15, er, 14, no, make that 13, no, 12 ounces. Or is it eleven or ten by now? I know, I know, and my father used to relate how milk used to cost eight cents a quart, and I would roll my eyes...Lessons of History again, I guess

I, too, have now received a packet of musk sticks. I agree with Angel that they are...strange. VERY...sweet!!!!!! What's that word...driech (dreck)ingly so. On balance, however, they aren't bad. I thought I detected a hint of cloves, which redeemed them entirely in my eyes. I let my family sample them. My son, with a thoughtful expression on his face: "Not bad". (He likes everything.) My husband and daughter each had a furrowed brow and crinkled-up nose as they tried theirs. Hubby: "This is foul." My dau.: "This is food?"
I'm glad to have had the experience!

Yep - this is one that divides the masses. I'm a definite 'Yea' too. I was accused of smelling like some kind of perfumed toiletry after eating some musk sticks, but I didn't mind. My first love (at 12) used to where White-Musk Body Shop perfume, which is prolly where my liking thereof began. I'd still go for a pack of 'Burger Rings' or 'Twisties' instead though. Especially considering thoughts refarding the origins of the musk aroma!

PS Gotta be careful with those Tim Tam slams - they're a choking hazard. The initial taste is delicious, but spraying hot coffee and molten choccie biccie all over the place once you choke sorta ruins it for everybody - particularly the closest bystanders.

My M.D. has forbidden me to have any caffeine or chocolate! Both of which I used to consume in vast quantities! Thank Heaven for - at least - WHITE chocolate with which I can fool myself even though it doesn't taste the same sigh.
(...going on my way to sit in the corner and brood about life's small injustices resisting any impulse to comment upon corelation of sex and chocolate. What a good girl am I!!!)

About chocolate/coffee/caffeine and having to give 'em up:
Try white chocolate almond bark or log. Fanny Farmer used to make white chocolate almond bark that was a bit of heaven itself.
