I have recently come across another interesting portal service that some others here may wish to take a look at:

http://Libraryspot.com

They also port to an associated trawl of all the news on the web:
http://www.headlinespot.com

Here’s what they say about their service overall:

Just at the right moment, mav - I am teaching an intensive week of study skills this week - and we finsh up by looking at the web as a resource. This seems to be spot on.

Many thanks

Oh dear. Had I not let everyone know about this one months ago? I really thought I had, especially after wow posted another one I've been quietly using for months/years.

The only downside is that it's a bit "merkin" for my liking. Trying picking "academic reference libraries" and see what you get.

CapitalKi: What is the one you've been quietly using for months that wow posted? Would you list it here if it's not already in this thread? I have to put together a course in Internet research for this summer and would appreciate any links to add to what I've gathered--although I sure lost many when my computer crashed yesterday.

Many thanks,
WW

Dear CK: may you taste a menstrual pubic wig.

Calm down, Bill. Really, I should, if I were you.

I remember dictionary.com. Others I may have mentioned include:

http://www.biblomania.com/

http://www.islandnet.com/~egbird/dict/

http://www.awpi.com/Combs/Shaggy/index.html

http://www.bartleby.com/

http://latin.about.com/

http://www.concordance.com/cgi-bin/begnr.pl

There are dozens of the damned things, but a lot of them are on my laptop which is currently in the more-or-less caring hands of Compaq.
