Oniomania is another word for the urge to shop till you drop, habit of the
debit, thrill of the bill. According to a pearl of ancient wisdom, we don't
acquire things, things acquire us. In the case of oniomaniacs, it is perhaps
the fun of acquiring things that acquires them. Imelda Marcos of the
Philippines could be one prime example of this category, also known as
shopaholics, though she could be better known as a shoeaholic.

This week we'll look at some more uncommon words with common suffixes.

How about buyomania. Anyone around here get Smithsonian? Well, in one of the issues, the Last Page was apparently written by an oniomaniac. you can tell because he's talking about his mania. I can't find itanywhere. Well, if you have Smithsonian you could probably find it.

I'm positive that my little brother had this when he was younger. He would pull his hair out and eat it for brestas, which meant breakfast, in kidspeak. Luckily, he stopped before he went bald.

Dear Rapunzel: Careful, I might have caught a couple of the other manias. There must be a "mania" for an old fool eager to take advantage of sweet young things.
