Loc: R'lyeh How do you-all say it?
I've heard both pronunciations for years. Just assumed it was a regionalism like with almonds and pecans. I tend to accent the ultimate syllable._________________________

Loc: Alaska In the context of my study of geology and my conversations with geologists (mostly US) over several decades, the pronunciation there seems to be buh-SALT. In the population at large (US), I have on rare occasions heard the pronunciation BAY-salt.

Loc: Lower Aberdeen, Mississippi Not to argue, Faldage, but I used the the term "Who's to argue?" felicitously. As in "Wanna fight?"

Loc: Louisville, Kentucky Oh mercy, what did I start?! This is great!
But, but...zmjezhd, what did you mean about almond? I've never heard it pronounced anything but ALL-mund. Please don't shock me as much as I was when I first heard someone say PEE-can.

Check out the variant pronunciation in the A-H dictionary: four. I learned the first one here on the Left Coast with the first vowel as in father and the l silent._________________________

Loc: Louisville, Kentucky Sort of related: today on the radio (I ran a BUNCH of errands this afternoon!) I heard an ad for a restaurant that sounded like they serve urban cheese bread.
