As dear Owlbow knows the word but does not want to tell it I'll now blow the half/hog. Now that a whole one seems to get started.

from your link:
Mummichogs are used to stock otherwise fishless ponds that breed mosquitos, and within three days the ponds are normally mosquito free.

Mummichogs are often caught in seines and minnow traps to be sold as live bait for fishermen.

All that they do for us and we sell them as bait.

I was waiting, (too long), for others' inputs.

My old home computer is dead. This may explain my inconsistent appearances here. As of late last evening, we have a brandy new one built by our talented son who works at the Fletcher School at Tufts. I am to set it up after work, (where I'm at now), today.

We used to fish for Fluke, (but caught mostly Sea Robins), off Sandy Hook NJ using mummies for bait. Yes - I am one of the ingrates. blush
I knew that it was a Native American word, but no more specifics than that. Does that entitle me to half a win of this half hog? If so, may I request a rear quarter?

You are the winner of the whole chog. I know your words are to be trusted. I did not want to keep the ½ one running with the new whole one. See Rhubarb Commando's thread (incunabulum) Enjoy the new computer. smile

For the native Am. word :

ETYMOLOGY:
Narragansett moamitteag

You read my link better than I did. It also proves that you read my link before I did, how's that? cool

Wow, is it really a Narragansett word? That was sheer guesswork on my part.
