sometimes I show up when I'm here, and sometimes I don't! (figure that one out) try this: if you leave yourself logged in you would think you'd always show up as registered online; but I think after a time, if you don't post, you 'vanish' and then the next time you come here, although you're still logged in, you don't show up in the list until you post again. or maybe it's all just random (not likely, this being a deterministic environment, and all that). - joe (if computers weren't deterministic, how could we rely on them) friday

If you reload the page you're visiting you show up in the list. Anyone who shows up while you're there will see you in the list, whether you see you or not. If you reload enough pages, you start showing up in new pages, because the system finally realizes that you're tired of being treated like a nobody.

It means that someone has chosen in their Preferences not to have their name show when they're here. I don't trust that listing too far, though: sometimes I show up when I'm here, and sometimes I don't! (figure that one out)
Thats what happens when you get new blood, they look around and explore.
