Is there a word for someone who is interested and knowledgeable about tying knots?
My daughter suggests Knot Nerd but that seems somewhat perjorative!
However her inlaws are Greek. Perhaps if I found the Greek for knot and put ist on the end it would be correct.

Welcome, OT! Well--I looked up the origin of knot, thinking you might be able to add ...phile onto the end of a root and get something at least semi-meaningful, but here's what I found at Dictionary.com:
Origin:
bef. 1000; (n.) ME knot ( te ), OE cnotta; c. D knot, G knoten to knit; (v.) ME, deriv. of the n.

None of the synonyms for knot jumped out at me as good candidates, either. Knot nerd sounds fine to me!

One Greek word for 'knot' is στραγγαλις (strangalis, strangalidos), but the Latin word for knot is nodus. So, I guess a strangalidophile or strangalidolog(ue) might do.

a Gordian is "one skilled in tying intricate knots", according to the OED, and a knotter is simply "one who knots or ties knots".

but I know, not exactly what you're looking for..

I'm not surprised you avoided saying, "now don't be naughty!"
