When ever I have heard or used the term "having a bad hair day" it has always meant just the literal meaning. What do others think?

My thought exactly, Steve. I don't think I've ever heard it used in a broader context. Welcome aBoard!

guys always care about the appearance of their hair. they care more, even about the disappearance!
(they might not care about hat hair, but that is another story)
Head hair is almost always desirable. when it's insufficient, many a man shaves what remains off, electing to have none rather than some.
Body hair is an other story. Young males, in movies, have arm pits as devoid of hair as a starlet--for the most part, hairlessness is now a requirement for leading men.. Unless they are baddies.. bad guys can often be identified by their body hair, be it facial (stubble, or stashes) or their lack of it (shaved heads can be neutral or size of danger.) and just last month, there were late night comics making comments on brittany spears and cohorts and their lack of hair down there...

I've occasionally heard it used because "I'm in a bad mood because all the little things are going wrong and if something doesn't go right soon you really don't want to be around me" takes too long to say. But usually it is just about hair. PS Hi Steve, welcome

What about what's growing in your beard?
There was an old man with a beard Who said, "It is just as I feared. Two owls and a hen, Three larks and wren Have all built their nests in my beard".

Hi, I am Vettakode, a new member from Kerala in South India. An amusing fact that came to my mind in the context of this week beingcelebrated as "hairy" : A famous writer in Malayalam, named vaikam Muhammed Basheer, in a novel called "Magic Cat" has divided the world's religions on the basis of the fashions of hair and beard they follow: some allow hair to grow, some prescribe the shape of the beard, some allow only hair, some only beard!! he calls the religions as "hair"y ones!
vcode/live each day, the best way!

In analogy with tonsillectomy and tonsillotomy would pogonectomy be the right word for shaving and pogonotomy for trimming a beard? Just a thought!

Welcome to both V's I wonder how .....he would classify medieval.............. monks who shaved a............. large bald spot in the........middle of the heads but.....let the edges grow. Probably effective in preventing vanity though.

( of troy ) Head hair is almost (interesting ) always desirable. when it's insufficient, many a man shaves what remains off, electing to have none rather than some. Men, having or not having head hair is (according to my accurate observations) far less a point in being attractive to women than men in general think. (if that would be by any chance something to consider here) ---Yul Brynner (hope his name's right) and Michel Piccoli (Fr. It.), two baldies, were considered highly attractive men. Agree-. And as for intelligence (some of us go for that) quote my history teacher: "On brains no hair will grow." .
