Dale:

You are quick to point out how many ghits there are for your pet word of the minute. Didst ever occur to you to look at the listings to find out WHY there are so many hits?

Had you done so in this case you would have discovered that bardcore is only used in its original meaning in the first two or three listings. All of the rest are adult sites which have all different manner of spellings of things like porn (pron, ponr, pnor, etc) and hardcore (hadrcore, hordcare, bardcare, dardcare, fardcare, etc.) so that the illiterates who are out there looking to waste their money on sexual images can find something when they inevitably misspell what they are looking for.

I have seen this myopia before in your questions about words; you frequently point out that such and such has 28K Ghits or 40K Ghits and wonder whether it's a real word. Please, in the future, try taking a look for yourself rather than just asking us to do your darned research for you.

It is, frankly, getting a tad tiresome.

I will remember that for my next library visit. I think the last one was about 6 mo ago

You don't need to go there. Access the library's website, and if that doesn't work for you, call them on the phone...

Anna: When I clicked on your wwftd link a few hours later it worked fine. It must have contracted a temporary Gates loop. Thank you for that, I have ensconced it amongst my Faves

Ted: I apologize profusely if the depth of my research doen't meet your criteria for authenticity. However, Googling "bardcore shakespeare" yields some six hundred hits, suggesting that the UD defs may have some validity. But if my threads upset your sensibilities you're cordially invited not to read them

including probably, this thread....

people have used the phrase. will it last? that remains to be seen. the UD is nearly instant. people (and I would guess that the user/writer base is not that large) like to think they're first, and clever, so they pen their definition, and post it. voila! spwonky! I've invented a new word!

of course the UD defs have some validity. people wrote them. but most of them aren't going to be around, not even in the virtual tomorrow.

Yes, because after musick pointed it out, I went back and fixed it, as I said in a previous post. You'd do well to read before you post. You are trying my patience, and not just mine.

eta: You are absolutely right about that in every respect.
Neos like ABSOLUDICROUS, AMN’T, BABELICIOUS, BEFUCKLEMENT, BANALYSIS, CHATTERFUGE, DREADLINE, etc get tens if not hundreds of thousands of hits; yet I don't accord them the chance of a Christian snowman in Baghdad. Still they're the sort that turn up first at UD. Thus at only about 600 significant hit, I don't have much hope for "bardcore" either

Incidentally, UD fielded "velocitize" this morning, one I had actually heard before and so it might catch on

Anna: Please accept my most abject apologies for misunderstanding "...till you outpointed and I experimentally clicked", which owing to my unfamiliarity with PC terms I had interpreted to mean, "I became immediately aware of your predicament when you experimentally steered your sailboat into the wind." Had you instead written, "You were right about the url and so I edited my followup accordingly, deleting the extraneous http," then at once I would have understood

But, golly, if you are unhinged my my occasional gaffes, please don't feel obligated to read or respond to my threads

For instance, an Advanced Archive Search with Timeline yields only one significant "bardcore," in 2001; whereas "velocitized" gives a half-dozen going back to the '50's. If you'd like to try it out:

http://news.google.com/archivesearch?hl=en&tab=wn&q=

Although you should be warned about this algorithm (help!) I was appalled to find tht "velocitize" didn't yield the same hits as "velocitized." I had thought better of Google

regarding google search: stemming technology is fairly new to Google (i.e., until recently it wasn't supported at all). perhaps they haven't got all the "features" worked out.

-ron (there's always six bugs in any software program) obvious
