The comments about bees reminds me of an old Lancaster County {PA} tradition. The most avid participants of corn-husking bees were the young singles. That's because whoever found a colored ear [what we call Indian corn] was suppposed [or allowed] to kiss someone. Of course that was when a kiss meant something special. Wonder what the equivalent "reward" might have to be in these days??

Welcome aBoard, Mr. and/or Ms. Moose. Though I've never been to a work bee (unless spelling is considered work), I've heard of the red-ear-get-a-kiss; same thing for anyone who cut an apple in half without cutting any of the seeds.

Alex--

from mav's link:

A padiddle or perdiddle is a car that has one headlight burned out.

..and upon spotting such, one wanted to be the first to yell out "padiddle!" so he could collect his reward from the nearest comely lass.
