Drat!

I forgot the annual tribute to my father, who would call, wire or write me every year on the 15th:

Here's looking at you, Pop! I miss you.

TEd sez: Drat!"

drat (colloq; exclamation) an expression of anger, disgust or annoyance. 19th C. Probably a contraction of "God rot" (normally used with an object, as in "God rot (something)" or "God rot (someone)". The journey from 'drot to drat was apparently a short one.

Then there was the old priest who, upon hearing screams from the catacombs, rushed down to find his colleague white-faced and shaking, pointing at the ancient scroll he'd been deciphering. The old one asked what on earth he had found, and his colleague responded: it's celebrate...

celibacy is not hereditary

...whereas insanity IS hereditary. Certainly it runs in families. You get it from your childen.

Another unappreciated hereditary trait is parenthood. Adjust gender to taste, and consider: If your father hadn't had any children, and his father before him had no children...chances are you won't either !
