SYLLABICATION: puis·ne
PRONUNCIATION: pyn
ADJECTIVE: Chiefly British Lower in rank; junior.
NOUN: One of lesser rank than another, especially an associate judge.
ETYMOLOGY: Old French puisne : puis, afterward (ultimately from Latin post; see apo- in Appendix I) + ne, born (from Latin ntus, past participle of nsc, to be born; see gen- in Appendix I
