Spellingbee word:
We've seen it many times in AWADtalk, but there still may
be some members unaware that this is not a plural.

kudos. Praises given for achievement. “Daphne received many kudos from the drama coach after her performance in the school play.”

Well, the example sentence in your citation certainly looks like a plural, Bill. I would say 'great kudos' rather than 'many kudos'.

It did occur to me that if it's pronounced correctly (short o as in hot and the s as /s/ not /z/), it should be obvious that it's not a plural form. I was trying to think of any word that ends with a short o and takes a plural with s.

Dear Bingley: the apparently erroneous use of kudos as
a plural was I believe an error on part of spellingbee
people. That's why I added the Collins Dictionary version.
