I've been thinking about words which are spelled the same but have different pronunciations and meanings. Some of them switch when capitalized. Then there is the challenge of getting both into one sentence. Here's the first ones which occurred to me. I'm sure the great minds on this board will come up with plenty more.

1. The well-bred and soigné Count Przymlsk-Wrzvski was celebrated all over Europe for his Polish polish of manner.
2. A malingerer is defined as an invalid invalid.
3. Washingtonians may be sleepless in Seattle, but Alabamans are mobile in Mobile.
4. A minute is a minute fraction of a year.
5. Was the august emperor born in August?

Hi BobY

You may not get many answers on this one dear as the subject has been discussed très très indept in other threads. You can look through the back-threads by clicking on the numbers at the bottom of the main pages. I can`t recall which category it is in. Perhaps an other of our members can point the way.

Salut.

Dear Bobby, Welcome to the club of those who have suggested a thread only to find the earlier members have already knotted and tied off all permutations.
Don't be discouraged. You'll strike gold eventually. Best wishes and aloha from wow

Hi there Bob,

Yeah, like the good bel says, the group's been-there-done-that, but as an old YARTie myself (they don't call me YARTie Marty for nothing), I'll try to help you out here. Well before my time, but try these:

http://wordsmith.org/board/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=words&Number=627,
in particular:
http://wordsmith.org/board/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=words&Number=894
and the similar
http://wordsmith.org/board/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=wordplay&Number=3086

I just used the Search button at the top and tried the word "invalid" on All Forums, All Posts.

And if you - or any other recent subscribers - are wondering what a YART is:

One wonders if we might have a glossary of board terms such that newbies would not have to search threads and mine much detritus to find a little gold. We could ask Anu ... but, of course, there IS no Anu!

I know ICLIU (I could look it up -- another Board acronym)but how is Mobile the place pronounced? Granted I don't think I have ever had occasion to refer to it aloud but you never know.

With the "i" pronounced like a long "e".

No, it's Mo-beel, usually with the accent on the second syllable.

Didn't Jazz and Bob say the same thing, 'cept for Bob's syllable addendum?

*scratching head and laughing @ the Mav pun*

Now, of course, were you Dylan, you'd be stuck inside of MO-bile and were you Verdi, your donna would be Mo-bee-lay.
