autochthonous (adj.) home-grown, aboriginal M.o.E., vi

I was in French Immersion for a few years in school, and I clearly remember that the Canadian French word for the people we call "First Nations" in English Canada and you call "Native Americans" in the US is autochtone. (Spelling may be wrong.)

Actually, autochthonous is not a rare word, but I used to see it infrequently enough that I had to keep looking it up.I'm surprised it was in the Peacock list.
