Another one of the spelling bee words. A coin collector. Numimatic = study of coins.
For once, my dictionary gives more information about etymology, tracing it back to
Greek nomos = law. Creation of coins is a jealously guarded prerogative of goverhment.
If you get caught making coins, you get plenty privilege taken away. (Hoagy Carmichael).

Not to be confused with the philately of the philatelist.

So did a coin collector coin numismatist?

Nagh, a numismatist put the stamp of approval on philatelist.

If you collect both coins and stamps, are you a numismaphilatelist or a philatelnumismatist?

My collection is small, but I collect portraits of dead presidents.

wwh - Does this make you and fiberbabe "narcologists"?

Dear musick: Fiberbabe could not be persuaded to narco with me.

Hey now! I don't remember being formally asked!

Posted By: wwh Re: numismatist - 02/08/04 05:22 PM
The trouble with 'formally asking' is that it is difficult
to ask for favors without asking for two things: one, the favor, and two, the tacit admission by the recipient that
she welcomed the request.
Pride dictated rejection of the tacit admission.
