drat (colloq; exclamation) an expression of anger, disgust or annoyance. 19th C. Probably a contraction of "God rot" (normally used with an object, as in "God rot (something)" or "God rot (someone)". The journey from 'drot to drat was apparently a short one.

celibacy is not hereditary

...whereas insanity IS hereditary. Certainly it runs in families. You get it from your childen.

Another unappreciated hereditary trait is parenthood. Adjust gender to taste, and consider: If your father hadn't had any children, and his father before him had no children...chances are you won't either !
