I wanted to join the chat but I kept getting a message saying java.lang Exception httpServlet not specified . I tried refreshing the page, disconnecting from the internet and reconnecting but I still kept getting it. Does anybody know what to do in those circumstances?

This one might have to be answered by Anu. I do know that
several people have had difficulty logging on, at various times and from various locations, so I don't think it's just you.

I've found it helps to empty the cache, clean out history and off line content. Have you been playing music while online? Perhaps change your selections? I've found my PC tends to give trouble when the music is not to its liking!
Or you could just go out for ice cream.

You'll probably get much better advice when all the Computer Whiz worker bees get back from the weekend hiatus. Meanwhile, good luck.

I have the same problem entering chat rooms, Bingley. So far, my own software difficulty is undiagnosed, but everyone has suggested to me a solution which might answer your problem. If you are running on windows and explorer, be sure that java script is enabled. On the toolbar menu of explorer, under tools - internet options, and depending on which level of software you are running, scroll until you find the java script enable click box, or go to the security tab, then internet custom settings, then click enable java. Hope this works for you.

Allo Bingley, I think you may be suffering from a case of the intermittent AWAD flu...many people have occasional problems logging on. Luckily, the problem seems to resolve itself on its own. The first time it happened to me it was right after we lost our English members altogether. Bit of a panic, let me tell you. I think we just have to grin and bear it. I am told it has something to do with the AWAD server.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone but they don't seem to be the problem. My computer at home is java enabled, and I could log on to AWAD without any problem, in fact I spent that hour clearing the board. It's just the chat I couldn't get at. If it happens again I'll try clearing the history and see if that helps.

My computer at home is java enabled,

So perhaps the answer is to make a cup of coffee?

Bingley asserts: My computer at home is java enabled

I'd be surprised if it weren't, considering where you live.

Well, my computer may be java-enabled, but I'm certainly not. It's a fiendishly difficult language, much more so than Indonesian, and I only know a few words. I like S. Mara Gd's detective stories, but the characters do have a habit of dropping into Javanese every so often and I then have to hunt up someone to translate it for me.

I tried to enter the Saturday night chat from a friend's computer -- much more state-of-the-art than my old Mac -- and still was unsuccessful. Could not get beyond the "connect" button.

Just piping in to say I had the same problem with connecting last night. It looks like a mini-epedemic.
