Why is it that when I use preview and then want to change something and hit the back button the message now disappears from the box. I then have to copy and paste it from the preview and then re-insert all the formatting. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH

I have that same problem. Now, to save time, I automatically copy before I go back. But of course you lose all the brackets for colours etc; in fact, when I remember, I type the message in Word first then I have all the details ready to copy! But it is a pain. I think it must time out somehow because it doesn't happen if you're quick enough. Murphy's law dictates that the longer and more complicated the message the more likely you are to lose it.
It's only been the past few days. Before that it was fine, no problem.

I would say that I have been experiencing it for a number of months. I can't look back to a time when I remember that it positively didn't happen. If you follow that.
Perhaps when the others clock in we'll get more information. It would really remove a frustration if someone can provide a solution to it.
It depends on the brwoser. Older versions of Netscape always gave me that problem but IE didn't. Now that I use new and improved Win2K, my browser is Netscape 7.02 which has been perfectly behaved (so far).
This machine is on a network that uses Internet Explorer 5.5 SP1.
Then it could be a cookies or cache issue. This forum makes use of both and maybe yours aren't configured.
Jest a guess, mind.
It has only happened to me since Anu switched the board to a new server; and it doesn't happen all the time. (There were some complaints about it at the time, too.) I never thought about time being a factor, dxb--thanks, I'll try to monitor that. I too have learned to copy first (MOST of the time), if I'm going to Preview. Even if I want to change something, I still have my codes and brackets.
Oh, no--the gremlins got CK's post! Aren't gremlins related to leprechauns? Perhaps we'd better see if his words have been secreted under a mushroom somewhere.
I didn't find them in my patch!
Last night and today, the opening page tells me I have a new PM--but there's nothing there. ??

i've had that problems for months.. i copied and cleaned out hundred of pm's-- but i still can't get rid of it.. i live with it..
Ah well, this is the existentialist board software we're using. You have to think positive thoughts as you post.
Ænigma works in mysterious ways.
Dear Dear Bingley - thank you! I have had that problem and thought it was just my lack of cyber-sophistication! Whew!
Oh, and while we are on the subject : about every other time I call up AWAD/board I have to log in. What's up with that? Whether I was aBoard yesterday or a week ago does not seem to be a factor. Anyone else with this anomaly?
make sure your browser is set to accept cookies, and; do you log on from different computers(home and work)? since there's a server firewall on my school computer, I need to log in each time, at home, I don't.
and sometimes, it's just because.
>make sure your browser is set to accept cookies
or that you aren't clearing them out periodically. (actually, you might occasionally want to do this, but recognize what you're doing!)
Yes, I have this problem as well. I have to log in every single time at work, but don't have to at home.My work computer seems to remember my passwords for other sites; it's only AWAD where I have problems. Are there different types of cookie (digestives? bourbons?)?

The problem is that the board software is cookie-crazy. It generates anything up to six cookies per post. It wasn't written, it was served up with a knife and fork. My proxy server at work really, really, objects to cookies past a certain, but undetermined, limit and refuses me entry to the page on the grounds that it can't deal with it if there are more than 15 posts.
There is much better board software out there, and we really should have it. Trouble is, of course, that Anu has acquired what he can get at the price he's prepared to pay. Can't really argue with that. But it IS a pain.

Trouble is, of course, that Anu has acquired what he can get at the price he's prepared to pay.I have often wondered about that. there is some good free software out there, however. I installed a forum on my church web site, and it's a nice format. there is something quaint about the AWAD forums that I like, though.

For me it's just started doing the reverse of this. I have new PMs, but they arrive unannounced. So if I fail to respond for a while, please don't be offended!
