Why is it the simple plus sign (small cross) is deleted from posts on this board and you have to use a "&"? Is this an HTML code glitch general to the web, or exclusive to certain sites?

Posted By: Faldage Re: the plus sign - 04/10/03 01:39 PM
++++
Under what circumstances is the + deleted?

Maybe it's just limited to certain posters.

Yah. To ones the software doesn't like, and it's understandable that it doesn't like Juan, isn't it?

Okay, Frick Frack, y'all!

Here's the post I just made on Q&A before that deleted the plus sign, as usual, and I had to subsitute the "&":

>That's exactly the way the word hit me, Jackie. (idea & euphoria) And it gave me a sense the stream of ideas would be of an exciting, positive nature (no negative ideas need apply)<.

[EDIT: now why'd it come out between Frick Frack here?]

[Double EDIT: ] Ha! SEE!!! It deleted it again!!!! After the edit. So maybe it deletes the plus sign in the edit.

Posted By: Faldage Re: Testing - 04/10/03 03:17 PM
Wull now ain' that weird. First I look at Juan's Frick + Frack and there's the + just as clear as can be. I Back out and click back in and it's gone.

Edit: Well, my +s were there, lessee do they go away?

Edit again: Nope they still there. Must is something you ate, Juan.
Posted By: WhitmanO'Neill Re: Testing - 04/10/03 03:19 PM
Edit your post, Faldage, and see if the plus sign deletes.

I dunno, this has been happening here longer than I can remember, I just never bothered to mention it before. I'll make a note everytime it happens from now on , so mebbe we can figgur it out. I'm using IE...could it be a browser thing?

Frick Frack (before edit)

Frick Frack (after edit)

Yep...it's in the edit...the edit takes the plus sign out, even the new one?????)

Faldage, you're using a Mac, right? Maybe could one of the non-Maccers try an edit and see if the plus sign deletes? Wordwind?

Posted By: WhitmanO'Neill Re: Testing - 04/10/03 03:33 PM
Testing just the plus sign:

(before edit)

(after edit)

[Edit takes it out when it's standing alone, too.]

Just so y'all know I'm not taking it out on purpose, here's one before edit:

('snuff for now...musick oughtta be able to make sense of this thread for us. )

plus sign: +

let's see.

OK now edit.

Well, the plus was still there on my Compaq: here's another: +

using a Mac, right?

No ain' *that innernesting. It was suing in the post I was responding to, but it's using in the In response to: box below. I was going to make a wiseass comment about wanting to sue a Mac, but no.

No, I'm at work using a Winbox.

Edit: Now it's a nice little using just like it's sposed to oughta be.
Posted By: WhitmanO'Neill Re: Testing - 04/10/03 03:47 PM
Yeah, I went back and edited a couple of typoes, 'cause I caught 'em and knew you'd pick up on suing Mac instead of using Mac, so, yeah, I'll admit I changed that.

Glad to see you're showing your true merciless colors, there, Faldo.

Just wondering if the "-" went too. It didn't

I used a program for some time recently and thought that the date entered in the field before a notes field was prone to change erratically. I suddenly noticed, that entering a "-" in the text of the notes took the date back a day. I finally solved it when I realised that writing a "+" took it forward a day. I had some mighty strnage notes before the company improved the software.

Basketball iMac here, using OS 10.1

plus from the keyboard is +
plus from the number pad is +
ampersand from the keyboard is &

Now to post it and see what happens:

Edit 1: came out exactly as written on the first posting
Edit 2: came out exactly as written after editing
Edit 3: came out exactly as written that time too. WoN, it must be something idiosyncratic to your system. Happy hunting :-)

My machine uses I.E. 6.0

Here's a + sign.

Now I've edited it. Is the + sign still there I wonder?

Well it is in the preview. Now for the ultimate test.

There goes your excuse about pun blindness. And shouldn't that be pun deafness, anyway?
