In these days chock full of events that are serious or sorrowful or mean or petty, I'd like to call to everyone's attention the accomplishments of a bunch of kids - specifically the LITTLE LEAGUE TEAM FROM LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY (home of our esteemed Administratrix) (loud cheering!).

Today they earned the World LL Championship by beating the best other kids from around the world in the finals of the tourament held at Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

A welcome relief from the major leagues with their impending strike, I must say. Maybe the children can save the sport, after all. Goodness knows the grown-ups seem to be doing everything in their power to alienate their fans...

Thanks, wofa! Your-all's team was really good, too. Do you know any of the kids? Did they get to the...finals?

Our kids defeated the team from Sendai, Japan, to win the Little League World Series. These teams are of 11- and 12-year olds. I of course don't follow baseball, let alone Little League, and had never heard of this league, though it's only 5 miles from my house. But I, after this week of playoffs, am sure proud of the effort these kids have put out--along with most of Louisville, I think. The local media are having a field day. The kids'll be feted when they get home, that's for sure. They've already missed a week of school. They're to be on Good Morning America (a national TV show) tomorrow.
