I am giving myself a trophy for this one: I just graduated to "addict"! (I know, Helen, I know - it's quality, not quantity, that counts!)

Might as well face it, I'm addicted to AWAD....

Let us go in peace to love and serve the board.

Welcome to the club!

Race you to the next grade, MG. Veteran, is it?

Actually I might take the laid-back Lukaszian approach and aim for Honorary Inchworm at this level (at least I'll say that after the fact )

Congrats, MG - and be assured that there is no cure nor therapy that's effective for this addiction - thanks the stars!

Ah, yes, mg. How well I remember my transition to addict
http://wordsmith.org/board/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=medicine&Number=49209

Can anyone tell me why this link doesn't go directly to the post I'm referencing but only to the thread where the post is found? Anyway, mg, scroll down a ways until you find it and then say "Amen, sister"

Dear consuelo: Did I hear you say:"Ah,men!" ?

Re:Can anyone tell me why this link doesn't go directly to the post I'm referencing but only to the thread where the post is found?

yes, Consuela, i can tell you. Do you really want to know?

Posted By: consuelo Re: Woo hoo hoo! I just graduated! - 07/07/02 05:03 PM
How about Ahhhhhh. Men! Yes, of troy, I do. The address doesn't show on my computer unless I position my cursor over the edit or reply button and as soon as I move the cursor, it disappears and I can't cut and paste so I usually cut and paste a previously posted link and change the necessary info. What more should I do?

Edit: Yes, Dr. Bill, that's what I am really doing, copying, not cutting. Have you been studying nitpicking with Faldage, hmmmm?

Posted By: wwh Re: Woo hoo hoo! I just graduated! - 07/07/02 05:15 PM
Dear consuelo: I thought "cut" and "paste" was just for editing a document.
For URLs, I use "edit, copy,,,,edit, paste" I do not pretend to be authority.

thats interesting! what browser are you using?
most browsers will have an address window that you can click on, (highlight) and copy/paste.

to get to the exact post, you need all the info, thread number, (page # reply #, etc..) all that stuff that makes the screen go wide!

check your settings, and see if what is selected or not.
Setting (or Preferences) will usually can be found in a menu drop down.

have you tried clicking on edit to see if the full address pops into the address window?

>to get to the exact post, you need all the info, thread number, (page # reply #, etc..) all that stuff that makes the screen go wide!

on the contrary, you just need exactly what you have except change "showflat" to "showthreaded" (assuming that is indeed the number of the post that you want).

Posted By: consuelo Re: Woo hoo hoo! I just graduated! - 07/07/02 06:25 PM
I have Windows ME and use Internet Explorer 6. The address bar at the top of my page only shows the address for Wordsmith, so that doesn't work for this purpose. I have another bar at the bottom of the site screen that shows the info only as it is connecting and that is where the information shows when I position my cursor over the reply or edit button. When the address shows up, it is truncated and doesn't show much beyond the post #. As far as settings or preferences, where exactly am I looking for these? I have checked all the pull-down menus on my toolbar and there are none here by that name. Thanks for the techie info, guys. Help me figure this out.

Many thanks to Ron (not-so)Obvious That was it exactly! Thanks, too, to Of Troy.

Big congrats, MG! But I think you'll find that you stay addicted to "addict" for waayyyy too long. It seemed like it took me forever to get to "old hand". But, then, I wasn't sure whether I disliked the addict in "addict" or the old in "old hand" more!
And, bein' a guitarist, I ain't sure I'm lookin' forward to Carpal Tunnel either! Think I'll just bask in my neutral Pooh-Bah-hood for as long as I can!

Me too, WO'N - just acoustic, but both rhythm and picked.

Howsabout a quick straw poll to see how many word-lovers are also guitarists? Results could be interesting.

Maybe calls for a new thread, assessing musical abilities of the Board in general.

Posted By: of troy Re: Guitarists - 07/08/02 01:11 PM
well if you limit it to guitarist, it will be at least three, but if you open to musicial skills, it goes up greatly..

and if you include vocals, it well of over half the posters i know and love!

and there there are people like me.. tone deaf, and couldn't carry a tune in a bucket!

What, an Irishwoman?

- nevertheless, if you don't find yourself banging the table and singing along with Whisky In The Jar after a few Guinnesses, I'm a Jabberwocky.

(actually I defy anyone not to get caught up in such an occasion)

Posted By: of troy Re: Guitarists - 07/08/02 01:40 PM
actually i don't like beer or guinness, I prefer hard cider. or better yet, spirit!
and none of this stuff of mixing good alcohol with fruit juice, or soda.. if you want a mixed drink, mix alcohol with alcohol! a rob roy, (scotch and vermouth) or black russian (vodka and Kaula)--none of the cream, thank you!

I don't know, since Max Q took down 'is 'elpful 'ints.

Not fair! you is way ahead of me already! but if you slows down to inchworm speed, I might catch up....

AAUGH! CONNIE'S RIGHT! AMEN, SISTER! (and also, I have to say it, ahhhhh, men!) I do find myself telling other people in my life all about dis place. They are going to have me committed, I have no doubt!

Hey Helen, I cain't sing either - but that doesn't ever stop me! (much to the regret of the assembled company, whenever I join in....! except my mother, God bless her and all who sail in her, who says she just likes to hear me happy. Now that's the right approach, I reckon!)

Nah, it's old-hand. 800 posts should see you past the post. But steady on, you two. It's quality and not quantity that counts here!

Congrats, ModGod. You're fairly flying your way up the posting ladder. And you're only a handful of posts behing me and I've been here over two years!

Keep up the good work!

Yes, MG's game of Demented Dictionary is wonderful!

i have a dictionary on my desk at home.. but i am going to trade the standard to partridges dictionary of slang & obscene or some other special dictionary soon.. and take DD to new lows!

Posted By: Rubrick Re: Woo hoo hoo! I just graduated! - 07/08/02 02:26 PM
Yes, I had a good look at it this morning and rued that I didn't have a hardcopy on my desk. I know that there is a dust-covered version somewhere in the building but asking for a dictionary in a computer lab could raise suspicions. I'll bring in my 12th ed OED tomorrow and show y'all how it should be done!!!

ah, you guys....I just have the biggest grin on my mug right now! (and no, I'm not posting this just to claw my way closer to "old hand"!)

Are you going to collect all these definitions and collate them into a finished article? There might be a bestseller in there, ye know!

I didn't even realise I'd become an old hand until 12 posts after...

Definitely failed in the Inchworm stakes.
