Where's my pink logo? I WANT MY PINK LOGO BACK! Did jimthedog disappear it along with his screen? Waaaa!

Posted By: jimthedog Re: facelift - 08/08/01 09:39 AM
What's that, out on the lawn? It's, it's, it's some pink thing.

I liked the old one better.

Posted By: wow Re: facelift - 08/08/01 02:47 PM
Very tasty! Clean, easy to read and use.
Thank you for your efforts, JazzO
Guess we just have to go to Max's Gallery to see Anu's pic. sigh.

Nice job, JazzO! As someone low in computer literacy I remain in awe of your artful dexterity!

Nice job, JazzO!

Thanks, but I didn't have anything to do with that design whatsoever, excpet for suggesting a new design.

I obviously missed something important. While I do know that the different parts of the board have to remain more or less as they are, because that doesn't depend on our very own Wordsmith, I *did think we'd manage to get rid of the pink logo on the top here as well. Bright pink and bright blue just do *not go together...

so now there is another page in the grim, er, bright new colours!

Posted By: wow Re: facelift-font size - 08/22/01 01:46 PM
What happened to header font? New one for search, send private, etc., are in smaller point size than formerly, hard to read ...oh! not for you eh? Wait a few years!

To wow, and all with similar concerns:

Go to Edit Profile, click on Display Preferences, go to
Font Size and delete what it has in it, and type 1 in the little box. Don't forget to click Submit, as I did! Then go to Main Index and see what it looks like. It it's still too small, repeat these steps until it's comfortable for you to read.

Ok, this is really strange... yesterday I had the old layout for AWADtalk, this morning I log on and hey presto!, no pink logos to be seen. From what I read, some people may have had the new format already for a few days, so I wonder why it didn't happen at the same time for everybody?
I am now getting used to this design, but I think I will like it...

Posted By: Marianna Re: changing the font - 08/23/01 07:25 AM
Wow, I have a Spanish-layout keyboard, but this is what I do to change the font of web page. To make it larger, I simultaneously press Ctrl and the key that sits just to the left of my Enter key (on the top row, you know the Enter button is two rows "tall"). On my keyboard, this key contains the +, the * and the ]. Doing this refreshes the page in a font one point bigger. To make it smaller, I press Ctrl and the key that sits just to the left of that one, which for me contains the grave and circumflex accents, and [.

I hope this works the same for you. If not, there must be a different method such as the one Jackie describes, or even a more straightforward key shortcut.

I have now got the new-look AWADtalk, and I'm afraid I don't like it either. I find it very cramped-looking. The old style had a very relaxed spacious feel to it, which the new layout just doesn't have.

Plus the purple to show where you've already been is too dark. On the page nos. it's difficult to tell which is purple and which is black to show where you are.

Okay, I logged on this morning and got the new page, and I now I see what you're all on about.

By the way, I got a PM from someone with (apparently) no subject line. Therefore there appears to be nothing to click on the read the message. Is this new? I think all other PMs I've even gotten had subject lines. Does anyone know how I might read it?

Display Preferences ... Font Size and delete what it has in it, and type 1 in the little box

Dear Jackie, did that awhile ago and I have nice "2" size type in the message sections ... it does not affect the very top area that has main index, search, edit profile etc. in an odd shade of plum. Ah, well I'll live with it .

I clicked on my post-name and it was Nov 25 I joined. Another reason to clebrate at Thanksgiving...

I had a surreal time with new version. I was very busy yesterday and didn't go to AWAD early. Around 11:00 p.m., went to AWAD and found I was logged off and had to log on (old version with pink still showing). When I went to log on, the system refused to recognize me -- kept asking for my password over and over. Gave up in disgust and went to bed. When I went to AWADtalk just now (3:15 p.m.) it was in new format and log on worked fine. I figured (and hoped very much) that the log-on problem was a temporary one; I would hate to have to start all over again as a stranger, newbie, etc.

I like the new fonts and colors. I hated the pink and the new colors are, to me, a little easier on the eyes. And I find the new fonts easier to read.

post-scriptum addendum: The pages seem to download significantly faster. That was one of the reasons JazzO wanted to revise the look.

In reply to:

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Posted By: Capital Kiwi Re: facelift - 08/24/01 06:17 PM
I agree with everything that BYB says. Not so much surreal. Much, much better. Reductionist. Loads a bit faster, too.

Great stuff, everyone involved.

but. didn't the main AWAD menu (today's word, yesterday's word, etc.) use to be on the top of *every page?

Just the ones directly within AWAD, not the Anagram pages etc. I think he's trying to streamline the whole site now. Which my design would have done . . . grumble grumble grumble

Bob, I had a similar problem. It must have been earlier this week - not sure when. I tried to post a reply, and when I hit "Continue," it would simply clear the form. I tried logging out and back in, but the same thing happened with the login - it would clear the fields and not be any use at all. The problem was gone a few minutes later.

Posted By: wow Re: odd log-on - 08/26/01 01:49 PM
Ah, Ha! So THAT'S what happened - my password was refused a half dozen times before I ended up asking for and getting a temp password. Then, later, when I had to shut down because of *huge* lightning storm, my old log on name was already up and running when I booted up .... must have been The Great Changeover. Thanks for clearing up the mystery!

I had the same problem, but I already made a thread about it.
