Let me take the opportunity to wish you all the happiest of blessings of good Saint Patrick on this, his special Day.

May the roads rise to meet you,
May the winds be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

And Bunker Hill day is seldom mentioned. "Don't shoot till you see the whites of their eyes."

Sorry, wwh, as I was corrected - to my chagrin - in earlier post it is Evacuation Day. The day the British evacuated Boston in the Revolution. A peculiar to Massachusetts holiday.

Evacuation is something that happens on "the best seat in the house" as an old advertisement put it. I think the name of the company was, of all things, Church.
My encyclopedia does not even mention Evacuation Day. It must have been weeks after the battle at Breed's Hill. Again the encyclopedia gives no clue. I can't remember dates and revisions revulse me. But when I was small, I could tell someone to "Go to Halifax!" when it was forbidden to say "Go to hell!"
