not apparently significantly including Arabians, but the sports teams are called the Arabs.

The Arabs play in the Pacific Coast Conference, and their colors are red and black.

Gosh, and here I was expecting to read about camel races or camel polo or something like that....

When the iron fist of Talibanic rule was finally abolished in Afghanistan, one of the things the Afghanis were happiest about was being able to play the sport they consider their national pastime again, and they were eagerly teaching it to the foreign servicemen there. In effect, it consists of polo played with the head of a goat (mummified, I hope). If they think the Taliban and the Marines were tough, wait'll PETA gets their troops in there! just a joke, I support Animal Rights to a point, I'm just not wacky about it. Obviously a cruel sport. But at this particular moment, and in light of recent events, no special interests seemed to raise an eyebrow over this report broadcast internationally on CNN. Guess everyone was just glad to see these poor people happy again, if only for a moment...and justifiably so.

Arabs on backs of camels hitting about the head of a goat. Now that's a mental image to carry with me here at the start of the new year. Surely this will be a surreal 2002 if much else like this follows.

OK, OK, I didn't read carefully still again.

So, now in this slowly developing surreal dream game, I see Afghanis and Arabs on camels hitting around, not one, but several goats' heads. Now, what could they use for those sticks? Couldn't be a sports term. But could be a porting one.

I understand it to be headless goat carcasses, not goat heads.

Actually, the clip showed them playing on horseback, WW.

[edit] Thanks for the great article on buzkaski, Sparteye! Maybe they did say "the headless body of a goat" on CNN, or maybe they taped a variation that day. Anyhow, I stand corrected...accuracy must prevail!

And, hi Max! Here's a little somethin' for you from the article:

The only sport supported by the Taliban was, of all things, cricket, which they had learned in exile in Pakistan. It sounds like a joke but it is not: Afghanistan had sent a cricket team to Pakistan for a tournament when the war started.
As it happens, cricket is famous for not having any action for long periods of time. Of course, to the Taliban, who wished all action except praying to stop, this was the perfect game.
So let us not be too superior: We might all rush out and ride after dead goats if cricket had been our only sporting outlet.
[running and ducking for camoflague cover to hide from Max-e! Hey, they weren't my words!]

I first heard of Non Resident Aliens as a term for Ludicranians who didn't admit to being Ludicranian. It was only later that I heard of it as a category from the IRS.
