I have noticed that everyone has a title depending on either time spent on here or the number of posts made by that person.
For example LukeJavan8 is named Pooh-bah and tsuwm Carpal Tunnel, I just wondered if anyone knows what all the labels are and at what point you become which?
Posted By: tsuwm Re: Post names - 11/30/10 11:27 PM
this is kind of humorous, from a historical perspective. the board software has gone through some major 'updates' over the years, but the one thing that has remained constant is the bloody board titles. many moons ago, the exact numbers needed to attain each title was recorded here. all that sticks in my memory is that Carpal Tunnel is the ultimate.

well, I'd nearly forgotten about this: Jo's helpful hints

as hinted at above, some of this (perhaps much) has been OBE due to all the updates; but the titles v. post numbers still seems to apply.

I remember asking how I could congratulate Jo on becoming an addict! I wish she were still here. And others. But it's a good group now.

One reason why I keep wanting to sticking around here (and I am not too good at staying in one place) is I have been here so long. I keep going away and coming back.
I am from the east, black and different in other ways too, but strangely I have always felt a part of this group - dunno why. Thanks yall for the acceptance.
I'll be away a while. Shifting to a new job, new state, new house and worrying about the possibility that everything is going to fall apart.
Posted By: BranShea Re: Post names - 12/01/10 12:26 PM
Things will fall apart and things will stay. No use to worry about what how and when.
Good luck Avvy in your new surroundings and work and as long you have an internet connection you could pass by every now and then? We're all from different places and often cultures.
Never mind. (wow, you're from the year 2000, that's really a long time!)

Ah thanks! It maketh much more sense to me now smile

Lots of luck, Avy, and as Bran says: stop by once in a
while.

Me too. I've wondered about the titles.
Another site I visit uses Grand Panjandrum as their top
poster.

Thanks for that.

WOW....I've posted 200 already.

and Carpel Tunnel is the ultimate...seems a shame that once you are there, there is nothing more.
Posted By: bexter Re: Post names - 12/01/10 10:42 PM
And what exactly is a Grand Panjandrum? I know that Pooh-bah is the name of the head of the club Fred and Barney go to in the Flintstones...also possibly a riff on the leader of the Masons?

ps I'm a journeyman now! I wonder what's next...and when wink
Posted By: LukeJavan8 Re: Post names - 12/02/10 03:51 PM
Merriam/Webster defines 'panjandrum' as:
Definition of PANJANDRUM

: a powerful personage or pretentious official
Origin of PANJANDRUM

Grand Panjandrum, burlesque title of an imaginary personage in some nonsense lines by Samuel Foote
First Known Use: 1856

(ain't it grand??)
I presume the titles in any of these sites (and I belong
to two now, three at one time until it died) are the
whim of the person who set up the site.

one forum I frequent uses names of fish, and another uses different "biscuits" or "cookies". much fun!
Posted By: tsuwm Re: Post names - 12/02/10 05:06 PM
I think we established that here the default titles that came with the software were used.

edit: just try googling something like: pooh-bah journeyman carpal tunnel

And don't forget Pooh Bah in "The Mikado" by Gilbert (an exceptionally talented wordsmith) & Sullivan. Pooh Bah is the "Lord High Everything Else" in Titipu, and is prone to such statements as "Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative"

I've reached the level of Pooh-bah,
as you can see to the left with my avatar. Whatever the
heck these levels are worth, and who cares, really?

As a newbie on this site, which I am constantly reminded
with "early ons" "Jokes", etc. I 'd like to know the
purpose of these "tags" like pooh-bah, and what were
the early on serious concerns. This, so that I
may be informed when and if discussion arises in the
future.

only to the extent that they sort of annoyed some folks, and there was lots of speculation about them until we discovered they were just a default of the forum software and no one was about to expend any effort turning them off.

Jackie?
Posted By: Jackie Re: Post names - 12/17/10 04:47 AM
Oh. There were a couple of times people would make senseless or nearly so posts for the sole purpose of advancing their "rank", and some other people didn't like that. Nothing huge. I think there was one time when somebody posted a sentence with one word per post.
