Although WC is the last remaining forum of this sort from which owing to its noteworthily liberal policies I haven't been summarily ejected, this post has only marginally to do with language and so if it doesn't meet WC protocol please feel free to move it to a more remote forum or even delete it if you feel it might ruffle a feather or two; but I felt compelled to provide Porc a greater sense of participation in spite of his qualms, by the following email to a buddy which by coincidence seemed applicable

But zm, if you wish to delete it entirely and if it doesn't require too many keystrokes please feel free to do so. However I'd be indebted if you could leave it up for a while, long enough for other new members to peruse. Thank you most kindly--Dale

Hi Curt:

...every so often I get an email from someone who wishes to be removed from my Contacts folder, whereupon I cheerfully comply as many folk are the victim of excessive spam, while so many of us need something to get angry about. Occasionally I point out that there’s another alternative, simply click on the black X in the taskbar across the top of the screen, with a single keystroke bam it’s gone forever. But I guess many resent having to do even that

Alas however, I can understand as my posts are probably not so clever as I imagine, while my persiflage rubs many the wrong way while my parsimony in punctuation positively inflames the prescriptive soul

Recently I was banned from another board for what its Admin considered an OT thread even though in the post itself I cheerily invited its Admin to delete if it didn’t meet protocol, as I have done above, while it survived two other boards of that sort with nary a whimper

Until I was summarily thrown off most of them I participated in six such boards, each having a different set of protocol. On one, you were forbidden from mentioning or linking to another such board (for fear, I suppose, or losing participants). On a second, it was ok to link to another board so long as you didn’t identify it by name, while on a third you could ID it but give no link; on a fourth, one of the most liberal, you could both specify title and provide a link

Given about a dozen such regulations and admonitions for on each board, there were at least 72 rules one had to remember. As I can’t keep track I’ve concluded that I must be a really terrible person. I’ve made NY’ Resolutions to the contrary but I always backslide

Some dispatch you indefinitely, which is to say forever, while other let you back in after a fixed time when they will have considered you sufficiently chastened. Of course, I’ve pointed out it’s their loss not mine and anyhow I spend too much time screen sucking; but in any case what tempests in teapots these be

But nonetheless I abjectly apologize to all who consider my email as spam and invite any remaining amongst my Contacts to so advise. I am yours, dalehileman@verizon.net

Best to all for a happy and eventful NY
...(in the present context, for those who voted for Bush, that means New Year, not New York)

Forgive, couldn't resist the temptation

Dale, this doesn't have anything to do with AWADtalk or discussion of words and language. I really don't want to delete it myself; for one thing I REALLY don't want to censor other peoples' posts; for another, it's not offensive in the sense of being profane or pornographic, for example; yet it IS offensive, and inappropriate for this board in several ways. For an example of one way, there are PLENTY of places on the internet where politician-bashing would be welcomed: this is not one of them.
So if you would delete your post, I would appreciate it.

'in any case what tempests in teapots these be'

Indeed, a fitting idiom. Perhaps there's a forum out there that is for people who have been booted from other forums for breaking the rules.

Very amusing email and many thanks.

dale, I think partly what troubles people is that you seem to continue to do this sort of thing, even when told it is not appropriate here. and this one is a direct cut-and-paste from a post to another forum entirely, with no explanation. I think Jackie is being exceptionally accomodating here. (which is Jackie to a t! /hug)

and welcome, porc. :¬ )

Porc thank you for your support, it's truly heartening in a milieu of unremitting hostility and fulmination

eta indeed she is, yet there are a few who appreciate a little persiflage now and again (Porc and Mav and perhaps a few others who are however afraid to come forward) and so for their benefit I hope youall will leave the post up for a couple days longer whereupon I'd be happy to relinquish what in the long run I admit most shamefacedly in toto constitutes a lengthy track of not exactly applicable folderol on WS' Hard Drive, alas, a practice welcome on some boards but severely chastised in others

But I just simply can't remember all 72 rules and while I realize this makes me a really bad person so my abject apologies if I have again violated protocol and I will endeavor to abide by my latest New Years' Resolution, to become a more nearly superior being such as those by whom I find myself surrounded

Though I can't promise anything

ONE RULE:

don't post political/religious stuff that contains opinions or thinly-veiled slant, regardless of its connection with words.
Posted By: dalehileman Re: Porcupine, most hearty welcome - 02/05/08 12:42 AM
eta read them again. Political slant implies treating one side differently from the other
Posted By: Buffalo Shrdlu Re: Porcupine, most hearty welcome - 02/05/08 12:56 AM
read it again, dale. it contains political opinions.
Posted By: dalehileman Re: Porcupine, most hearty welcome - 02/05/08 05:13 PM
eta Perhaps so but alas alack I can't delete it because for some reason your algorithm won't let me. Or, quoting GWB:

"This case has had full analyzation and has been looked at a lot....I think anybody who doesn't think I'm smart enough to handle the job is underestimating"
.
Or, paraphrasing another Presidential Pronoucement, I understand that unrest in WordSmith "...creates unrest throughout the region," while "If you're asking me...would I understand reality, I do"

So, as I said earlier, please do exercise your duty to delete it from your perch high above mine; because in the words of our Maximum Leader, "I can't think of anything more deep than that right"

In my profound relief afforded by your action in resolving this matter I feel as he did when he said, "I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep on the soil of a friend"

only Jackie can delete posts after a certain time period. I am not a moderator here.

and I am done. I have defended you on many occasions, and you have begun to repay that with increasing trolling. (I can't think of a better word at the moment.)

best of luck to you.

eta that's a very good word, while I too would like to hug Jackie...

...while again thank you most kindly for all your (at times ambivalent) support...

...though I had hoped instead that you might have got a chuckle out of the foregoing...which though in my boundless narcissism I guess isn't nearly so dazzling as I imagine...

...and so if youall should choose to ban me forever I will understand and thank you again for your excellent board in which over the years I have so enjoyed participating, and blessings and my parting love to everyone

PS: The cultivation of a less hostile attitude on the Internet boards at large would prevent tens of thousands if not millions instances of anxiety, insomnia, and heartburn. At the risk of sounding ever-so-slightly religious, by the way, as long as I don't expect to be here for long, when I consulted God about this very subject, She instantly relieved me of this last symptom but since again I'm treading on sacred ground (no pun intended, eta), I'd be happy to elaborate, dalehileman@verizon.net

Dahil,

Have you ever stopped to think that the vast majority seem to find this (and other) message boards entirely to their liking or they wouldn't stick around? That these people formed the forums over years and it suits them? Perhaps you should get your highly-paid IT son to start a board for you. I am tired of your repetitive antics. That's all I'm gonna say, so don't bother to engage me on this. I doubt it'll penetrate anyway.
