It even shows the correct local time here. I wonder if it addresses my computer's system clock? The question then arises what else it might address...

It's a Flash animation which is running in the Adobe Flash player plug-in inside your browser. As such, it does have _limited_ access to your machine, e.g. it can only read and write files from one special directory.
