I saw an ad today that states in part "the latest advancement for your phone is..." referring to new technology.
Does that look weird to anyone else or is it just me?
Zed: In what way does that seem strange
I'm not sure, that's why I asked. It just looks wrong,
maybe advance without the ment would look better.
I dunno. Advance sounds like someone is making a down payment on your phone.
Zed: I asked Laverne, who is much smarter than I, and she agreed that the phrase sounds perfectly ok
Well there is a big difference at work between making advances and making advancements. One of 'em will get your butt fired.
OK it's just me then.
(it often is - sigh)
