Thanks Jackie. I showed that to a couple of collegues who'd been having a rough day and things definitely improved. Of course it made it hard for the one who was trying to talk on the phone to hear over the laughter.

Sometimes we forget that the whole point of these headlines is to attract attention.

A headline which does not attract attention is a wasted opportunity.

What you perceive as quaint, Jackie, is merely clever.

"moss" is a sock puppet (pseudonym) for an individual who has been banned by management from this site. Apparently, he has taken the trouble to find another computer from which to post. He uses other pseudonyms as well, including "plutarch" "carpathian" and several more. Apparently, he has seen fit to find another computer from which to post. It is generally believed that it is his intention to destroy this board.

Thank you Jackie... I admit that I am tempted to steal a handful of these and try them out on my translation students!

Reminds me of an anecdote where an ESL student came to his teacher with the sentence "Mary was great with child". Having received his explanation, he returned totally flummoxed by "Mr. Smith is great with children."

English is such a messy language to learn.
