What is it about Roy Orbison's voice that captivates? Unfortuntely his song reminded me of the song below that only three people yet alive will remember. But I liked it, and will honor it -with the boards kind acquiescence -here and now...

You went away and left me.
You left me all alone.
To do a thing like that. Your heart must be made of stone.

I did every thing I could. I tried to treat you right.
I worked hard every day, and I loved you every night.
Still you went away and left me, you left me all alone.
To do a thing like that, your heart must be made of stone.

I'm a rambler, I'm a gambler,
I'm a long way from home,
and them that don't like me can leave me alone.
I'll eat when I'm hungry,
I'll drink when I'm dry,
and if the moonshine don't kill me,
I'll live 'til I die.

Moonshine, oh moonshine!
Oh how I love thee,
Ye killed my old father, but ah you try me.

Johnny Angel, how I love him
He's got something that I can't resist
But he doesn't even know that I-I-I exist

Johnny Angel, how I want him
How I tingle when he passes by
Every time he says "Hello" my heart begins to fly

Her figure is something to applaud

You got to try a little kindness
Yes show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets

If you're ever down in Houston
Boy, you better walk right
And you better not squabble
And you better not fight

Bason and Brock will arrest you
Payton and Boone will take you down
You can bet your bottom dollar
That you're Sugar Land bound

Let the Midnight Special
Shine the light on me
Let the Midnight Special
Shine the ever-lovin' light on me

Ledbetter(pronounced Leadbelly) was famous black blues singer from the 30's.

Oh honey, Houston, Houston means the last day of the tour and we're through
Well honey, you and God in heaven above know I love what I do (for a living I do)
Oh, but Houston, Houston means that I'm one day closer to you.

Bell bottom blues, you made me cry.
I don't want to lose this feeling.
And if I could choose a place to die
It would be in your arms.

Of course of troy, I thought that was Ledbetter to Leadbelly. Was I wrong?

You better be careful Boy
About what you say or do
That unseeing eye just keeps on watching you.

Seems
like you don't care
about places you go
Seems
like you don't care
about the people you see
Seems
like like you don't care what you say or do
But that unseeing eye is Watching yoou.

Faith is never lost, sometimes it's hard to find
Sometimes she prays aloud
It helps her ease her mind
If she could...just touch their wing
If she could just hear them sing...then there's...

One white feather from the sky
There's an Angel watching you
Yes, there's one white feather from above
There's an Angel watching you

I said you, you’re always gonna hurt me,
I said you’re always gonna let me down,
I said everywhere, every day, every day
And every way, every way.
Ah honey won’t you hold on to what’s gonna move.
I said it’s gonna disappear when you turn your back.
I said you know it ain’t gonna be there
When you wanna reach out and grab on.

Because all of your hope is gone (all your hope is gone)
And your life is filled with much confusion (much confusion)
Until happiness is just an illusion (happiness is just an illusion)
And your world around is crumbling down, darlin

Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's going to buy you a mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don't sing,
Mama's going to buy you a diamond ring.
And if that diamond ring turns brass,
Mama's going to buy you a looking glass.

This Diamond Ring
Who wants to bu-u-uy this diamond ri-i-i-ing?
She took it off her finger, now it doesn't mean a thi-i-i-ng
This diamond ring doesn't shine for me anymore
And this diamond ring doesn't mean what it meant before
So if you've got someone whose love is tru-u-ue
Let it shine for yo-ou-ou

This stone is genuine like love should be-e-e-e
And if your baby's truer than my baby was to me-e-e-e
This diamond ring can mean something beautiful
And this diamond ring can mean dreams that are coming true
And then your heart won't have to break like mine did
If there's love behind it

I found my girl
I'll tell the world
That heaven is missing an angel
My dreams came true (came true, came true)
When I found you
Yes heaven (heaven) is missing (missing) an angel (angel)

Not a day goes by
That I don't thank God for you
He blessed me with my angel
Though I don't deserve you
Before I met you girl
Lonely was my best friend
Now that you are in my life
I am stronger within

Whatever this world can’t give to me
You, you’re all I see
Oooo you make me live now honey

Aww, you’re the best friend
That I’ve ever had
I’ve been with you such a long time
You’re my sunshine
And I want you to know that my feelings are true
I really love you.

I run for the bus dear
While riding I think of us dear
I say a little prayer for you

At work I just take time
And all through my break
I say a little prayer for you

Forever and ever you’ll stay in my heart
And I will love you
Forever and ever we never will part
Oh how I love you
Together Forever
That’s how it must be
To live without you
Would only be heartbreak for me

I know it's hard for you my baby

Here's another version of this lullaby:

Hush, little baby, don't say a word,
Mama goin' to buy you a mockin' bird.
If that mockin' bird don't sing,
Mama goin' to buy you a diamond ring.
If that diamond ring get broke,
Mama goin' to buy you a billy goat.
If that billy goat fall down,

Thanks Paulb, never did I think I could work in my favorite goat song. This is the only song that Sonny Boy Williamson ever wrote about the Civil Right's movement.

THE GOAT >Sonny Boy<

There was an animal, they called the goat
He butted his way, onto the Supreme Court
So let him go, please, please, let him go
'cause he's worked so hard,
we can't use him in our Court no mo'

The medicine doctor bought the billy goat
Had a big stage show
the billy goat got mad and knocked him down,
and on some flo'

'bout that time the High Sheriff
happened to be caming along,
and caught the billy goat eating up, the ole farmers corn
The High Sheriff carried the billy goatto the county jail,
but the Desk Sargent said "I'll go his bail!"

So let him go. Please please, let him go
'cause he worked so hard we can't use him in our court no mo'

Stagger Lee met Billy and they got down to gamblin'
Stagger Lee throwed seven, and Billy said that he throwed eight
Then Billy said "Hey Stagger, I'm gonna make my big attack
I'm gonna have to leave my knife in your back"

Oh, the shark has pretty teeth, dear
And he shows them, pearly white
Just a jack knife has Macheath, dear
And he keeps it out of sight

When the shark bites with his teeth, dear
Scarlet billows start to spread
Fancy gloves though wears Macheath, dear

Born a natural loser -- can't recall just where
Raised on brew and poker and a dollar here and there
Blackjack hand, dealer man, you better pay off that last bet
Two-bit hand, a 21 is all I ever get

Go down gamblin', say it when you're runnin' low
Go down gamblin' -- you may never have to go

Down in a crap game, I've been losin' at roulette
Cards are bound to break me, but I ain't busted yet
'Cause I've been called a natural lover by that lady over there
Honey, I'm just a natural gambler but I try to do my share

I would never be able to forgive myself if I didn't cross thread this one!

Lookin out on the morning rain
(Ah-ooo)
I used to feel so uninspired
(Ah-ooo)
And when I knew I had to face another day
(Ah-ooo)
Lord it made me feel so tired
Before the day I met you
Life was so unkind
But your love the key to my piece of mind

Cause you make me feel
You make me feel
You make me feel
Like a natural woman (woman)
