The site was down last night, but even so I've not gotten any new def.'s, so here goes!

a.) A very rare orchid of the phalareopsis family, having three
petaled flowers with the middle petal enlarged into a lip, and
differing from the others in shape and color. Found chiefly
in the mountain heights of the Philippines.

b.) a small but ornately decorated metal disc, to be attached to the glove (gauntlet) protecting the sword-wielding hand

c.) a string instrument where strings are pulled by a built in wheel that is turned by means of a handle. First images date from the 13th century.

d.) A cross between a moonflower and a dandylion, giving a yellow flower that blooms in the night

e.) Seasoned gay male on the hunt for tender game. A male cougar.

f.) A large bronze disc with inscribed Linear A characters.

g.) a loose outer garment worn e.g. by soldiers over their armour (also mandilion) (hist); (with cap) the name of a cloth supposed to bear the imprint of the face of Jesus

Let's say...votes in by evening of the 25th., EST, USA.

good ones! But I like B!

A fine, gallant collection. Flowers and heraldry, music and hunters. As a seasoned voter I bide my time a while.

Love your work, Jackie.

Where's the vet?

My, my.

A and D are flowers, a la dandelion. ("lion's tooth")
B and F are decorations, a la medallion. ("little medal." Double-L). And by extension, G
C is an instrument, a la mandolin. (plucked by hand)

Warily I have to choose E .

I'm going with "B"

E for me.
Humour arr arr

....G.... any article of clothing, that was around that long ago, to be used to wipe the face of Jesus, is bound to have an unusual name!

Bugger...just had another brilliant idea for Mandylion (Mandilion) Daffy...

Just reading about todays google historian Gregor Mendel.
Mendelian would have been a good substitute/twist meaning.

"moonflower". Like Citizen Kane whispered: "rosebud". Please gimme D.
It'll cure my lunaphobia.

I vote for

F

I thought looking at it for ages would make it easier but i still resorted to the 'close eyes and point' method of choosing wink

Ha..I read this last night Bran, and didn't 'get it'
but tonight's a different story crazy (phase of the moon).

Re your decision, Bex....I feel cheated. I worked so hard on wording my daffy and you just take a pig...or should that be 'lion'...in a poke!
Posted By: Faldage Re: mandylion daffynitions - 07/22/11 10:31 AM
OK, I'm going for A.
Posted By: bexter Re: mandylion daffynitions - 07/23/11 08:38 AM
Candy, they were all so brilliant I just couldn't choose! The longer I stared the harder it got! I believed practically every single one and the ones I didn't believe I hoped were true just because of their craziness...so I resorted to the good ol' point an shoot method to get rid of my inability to choose! laugh haha really good set for a great word Jackie smile

Hi, Bexter. Method works for me, especially when most of them,
if not all, are daffy to begin with.
