The earlier thread had 950 posts or so in it. Since we're starting afresh why don't we freshen that too, for the sake of anyone using a narrowband connection (i.e. a modem).

I suggest we put a stake in its heart and start a new one, right here.
I'll offer this to start:

STUCCO
I sort of suggested that above with strangulations and
triangulations and their ilk.
It takes two steps to make SCOURGE
but first comes one LOCUST.
Once in hundreds we have an x and you give it the ax right away
CRATED
(Oh well, Bran, I tried...)
SCATTER
(Here's your chance, Bran!)

I think the J leads to a dead end. Let's back up a step and try a different direction:
WHEELED
H-->T
ELECTED
(P.S. fifteen or so posts up is ERECTED...don't go there!)
O-->E
...on a PEDESTAL
(...why do I have the feeling we've run this sequence before?...)
Nice one, STAMPEDE.
P --> R
After we MASTERED the technique, the herd just STREAMED on by.
(been thinking about this all day...hope I've done it right)

ERGOTISM
Welcome!
Perfect! By George, you've got it, as Colonel Pickering said about Eliza Doolittle.
Lessee now, where to go from here?
EGOTISM is too obvious
Let's send E-->N and have at the battlements!
STORMING

DONATOR It's neat when we can do a twister, good one.
CARTOON
I'll skip the ORATION about the OCTAROON CANTOR from CROTONA and his CONTOURed CARTON and continue with a nice furry
RACCOON
C --> S chases them away with wild horses -
BRONCOS
the whole site seems sort of dead right now.
So I'll add an
A
and make it CORONAS
which was making no progress at all so
we can add an L
CORONALS
well I wanted to make CROONS (soft sentimental singer) into SCOORN (a German death metal band) but I thought it might not be exceptable. Great reversal meaning though, wasn't it.
That was yesterday...today I will follow on from CORONALS
which maybe contraversal too...as not English spelling (dont know how you feel about that!!!!)

CATHERISE
"Catherise' ? I don't know that one. Did you mean "CATHETERISE" (asked the Urologist? )
misspelled it.
Should be catharise.
But I've searched and I cannot find where I got it.
No, I did not mean catheterise.
so: ASCERTAIN

Count me "dense", but it must be some other thread?
I have no idea what you are talking about. Should I??
Not dense, but it's been a while.
If you look at
http://wordsmith.org/board/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=180924you'll see a previous incarnation. (page down to 1/22/2009)
and another reference at
http://wordsmith.org/board/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=189797has the mosst recent time it was offered. (page down to 3/6/2010)
I don't recall where the first mention of it was; likely a different thread but the same game.
And there's a way of getting directly to the post by its #, but I only know how to get to the top of the thread. Sorry.
I see, we did the emigrant/tangiers thing before.
Guess we need a new set of letters or something.
thanks.

No need to start over, let's just move on.

I plead ignorance, but I did not know we could have
two words, yet I have not been on this thread long
enough to ever see the roolz.
We can't. That's why it's "no cigar." Not a valid next step. Not in bolded.
We return you now to your regularly scheduled programming.

THEOCRATIC
I'm sorry, but "not in bolded"? I don't understand.
and I don't get the ducks and cigars. I am a pretty
simple person, don't read between the lines very well.
Presuming the word is still "theocratic"???
RATCHET
T --> E
TEACHER
As for duck and in bold: Duck is what you should do to avoid being hit by a RICOCHET. Bold is like this as opposed to ordinary text. My "next word"s are most often in bold to indicate that that's my answer. A word NOT BOLD is a comment meaning "this one's close but breaks one rule of another and so doesn't really qualify." In other words, it's close, but no cigar.
One minute sixteen seconds too late, I see.
Okay,

point of error......just noticed I dropped a 'D'
but on checking...muddslide does appear as word with x1 D or x2
and muddslider could be OK too
so do we go on from there or go back and start from muddiest again????
(and I loved my mudslide answer)
Why don't you pick one:
with one "D" or two "D's" and go with it, we will follow.
OK, wofa..?
from MUDSLIDER then

I can't object to bending the roolz a bit and being arbitrary, especially after composing:
drop one D

which is what the Federation starship Enterprise did on Star Trek, when it wasn't warping. (Never mind the misplaced modifier, you know what I mean!)

d'oh...forgot an i-beam...total collapse.
sorry..still learning this game..importance of details.
scratch my entry...thanks
No problem. Glad to have you aboard.
The way I understand it, it is:
a) add a letter
b) delete a letter
c) change a letter.
At least that is what I do, when I am not adding two or
deleting three. I mess it up all the time and then
wofa.... corrects me.
Anyhow welcome.

(Homage to Leonard Bernstein)
INWARDI was looking at your Darwin and wondering if you meant Charles Darwin and was thinking..whats the tie up with caretaker?...so went searching about him. If you had said gardener, well then yes, I see that...
(love this pic)....well then I give up and get back here to find, I was just of on a wild goose chase. BranShea had just not changed the 'subject' of her word LOL.
I think Bran just used my topic "caretaker" with the word
warden. But Darwin, hmmmmm.

Lovely picture, Candy. I didn' know there's ties involved now. Haven't been in this thread for a while. I remember there once were some issues about using proper names, but when I saw Wofa use Rwanda I thought Darwin could go as well. That's all.
I remember there once were some issues about using proper names
Used to be, actually, I think, and I presumptuously ignored them for the purpose of getting less-than-obvious rearrangements into play.
Mea culpa, and may it be the worst transgression we perpetrate...
so....there are only a half dozen or so of us who play
this game. Do we want to admit proper nouns or not use
them?
Vote?
I am for NOT using proper nouns. But I'll go with the
majority.
Maybe every once in a while, to brake a continuous same set of letters. (uh.. ;-) would there be a majority?)
BELLING
L-->O
'Twould be IGNOBLE to be otherwise,
I like the free-wheeling possibilities they bring to the available choices (if not too arbitrary) but I'm not adamant either way.
guess it just developed and adds extra spice to the game.
and as to the use of proper names vote.....I don't mind either way, I'll play by the rules.
Sounds good to me: does add extra spice to the game,
and permits new letters to be admitted, so let
us allow Proper nouns too. Go for it!
drop a B
BOWLINGI don't mind the change to the Roolz. It's "our game" and we can do what we like!

GREEN OWL

Something else we need to vote on, I suppose.
Normally two words don't count. But I am only one

Wofa? Bran? Candy? CB?
In which case

FLOWERING
Not that green owl wasn't a good one!
I've had some like that too, but refrained, due to

GOLDMINER ( or demon girl

FOOTBRIDGES
hopefully we can work our way out of the rut.......
we can only try... definitely a rut
hmmm have put FOOTBRIDGES through every possible combination...I have removed each letter and scrambled systematically and found nothing, have replaced each individual letter with every letter in the alphabet and added each letter alphabetically to the end and come up with nothing except variations on debtors and obliged frogs...

AS HAVE I: NO LUCK.
SO WE NEED TO
go back and pick up from a previous word, or.
start anew.
I started a new ANAGRAMS IV
In the FUN THREAD.
first word is HOLIDAY
If someone can untangle FOOTBRIDGES, good luck, and I'll join
in, but for now Anagrams IV is up and running.

Yes Luke...anything to get this game going again. I'm missing it.
I foresaw the 'deadlock' but couldn't prevent it.
I too have been playing around with last word and only way out was to combine two words......
onward, then, to Anagrams IV: "holiday"
