I was reading an article in The Times (London) which chronicled the UK government's apparent inability to keep convicted sex offenders from becoming teachers (p9 of the Saturday edition). Most of page 10 was a government ad seeking new teacher-training candidates. The headline was "Start on £19k (see below for benefits)". The unfortunate first line of copy said this:

Working with children is its own reward, but it's not the only reason to become a teacher.

ahem. Someone shoot 'em!
