The clue was: feture at a wedding reception. The naswer was "Viennese table." Neither Peggy nor I had an idea what it was and a google reveals that it is a dessert table, at least judging from the descriptions offered by various caterers.

Anyone ever heard of it? Any other odd names for stuff associated with weddings?

A Viennese table is, indeed, a separate table at a feast (often a wedding reception) filled with desserts. Some claim the term to be of Italian origin; some insist that it is Jewish. Nobody seems to claim that it is Austrian. That's odd. Maybe this is one of those terms like "French fry" which have nothing to do with their direct referent.

I've never heard that term before, TEd. It sure is handy though, and sounds much more elegant than our usual: "the good stuff."

I've heard the term "des viennoises" to mean fancy desserts
