a friend used "nebby" the other day, saying it meant nosy. neb showed as being Old English on OneLook, but it made me think of "nebbish", which I have thought of as Yiddish, which OneLook confirmed, though meaning a simpleton.
not sure if I have a question, but seems a interesting mix. I figured someone would have something to say...

I am familiar with the word "Neb", meaning "nose".
To me, it has a distinctly Scottish flavour and I have also come across it in a Northern English context - but it may have come over here from northern Europe - German or Scandinavian.

It appears as part of place-names here, too - sometimes in the form of "nab"
