Can someone please use the word semantics in a sentence.
Dictionary definition: the study of meanings, the historical and psychological study and the classification of changes in the signification of words or forms viewed as factors in linguistic development.

As the African remarked of the missionary who had swallowed his watch, "See, man ticks."

Welcome, Nancy, and don't be put off by me - someone might give you a sensible answer

Generally speaking, semantics is the study of meanings.

sorry, this is actually beyond my meager pedantic capabilities; but here is a citation from W3:

<this lack of understanding has resulted from different terminologies, but the problem is not merely one of semantics> -- E.L. Kelly

Welcome, Carolyn! I like your books.

How 'bout: When I am misunderstood, I always say it was
a matter of semantics.
