Once again, I find tsuwm's wwftd very interesting. I have searched every way I can think
of, and have been unable to find its etymology. It just does not seem like a coinage that
Bowditch would have created. But where did he get it from? Many words ending in
"-tage" are of French origin, so I tried various spellings of first part of word, but had no luck.
Maybe some of you might enjoy trying to find origin of this word.

kumatage

A bright appearance in the horizon, under the sun or moon, arising
from the reflected light of those bodies from the small rippling
waves on the surface of the water FROM Bowditch´s Navigator,
24th edition (1854) page 295, thanks to John Lynch Cummins (moon
river)

I would be helpful to know the pronounciation. It has a Japanese look to me which would mean it was pronounced coo-mah-tah-gay. Of course, its having been in the English language since 1854 may have had profound effects on its pronunciation. Also, I can't seem to squeeze any sense out of it in Japanese, but my resources are pretty slim.

No hits on OneLook.com -- not even tsuwm's -- which makes me wonder:

How long does it take OneLook.com to add on tsuwm's definitions? And, tsuwm, by the way, I'm no longer receiving your definitions.

he updates irregularly from index, every two or three months. I update my index irregularly, every two or three months. if we get out of sync, that could mean up to six months for OneLook to be "current"!!

as I mentioned elsewhere, I'm still sending to your address, with no notifications in response. the problem could be on your end -- maybe I was put on a "bad boy" list by your server for sending you firkytoodle and bonking.
