I'd like to tap the creative minds on this board for an ear-catching company name. Here is a description of the company:

This company will design, manufacture and (maybe) distribute lighting products for residential and commercial use. These products will be based on a form of clean, green, energy-efficient technology not currently available in any lighting market.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Would it be possible/ useful to know what that technology is based on?
Posted By: zmjezhd Re: Looking for a name... - 01/31/10 03:24 PM
My first thought was Fiat Lux or Lux Aeterna. Lucent has already been taken. Lambent? Aglow?
Posted By: twosleepy Re: Looking for a name... - 02/01/10 01:13 AM
Bran: It's a form of LED technology.

zmjezhd: It's funny because those are names for pieces we've sung in our choir... I think it should be a few words. The name they have now is fairly stilted and boring.

"A New Light"; the advertising slogan could be You Will See Things in A New Light. (Sorry, I know it's not very good. I am not a creative person.)

I thought of "green noir technologies" (or grenoir if you want a portmanteau) thinking noir means new in french. When I looked up noir I found it means stylish but it also means (a cinematic style) characterised by low lighting. smile

Well, I like "Seeing things in a new light". That's very good. Thanks for the inspiration!

I think the "low lighting" bit would be a tad contradictory! :0)
So, it would be "green neuf technologies", but I'm not sure that would fly in the US...

That was a fun suggestion. I had put a smiley on my post which did not register. I think I should add [smiley] instead of a colon and bracket.
Posted By: BranShea Re: Looking for a name... - 02/01/10 11:03 AM
Maybe " LEAD ON " and the letter A a bit dimmed, so that the led idea keeps coming through?
Posted By: Faldage Re: Looking for a name... - 02/01/10 12:03 PM
And noir, literally, means 'black.'
Posted By: BranShea Re: Looking for a name... - 02/01/10 01:42 PM
Uh..uH? oh zut! I think I meant : LAED ON.

Yeah! That was part of the joke that I did not tell very well. Sorry. [Smiley] or [frowny] whichever. I am using a non blackberry connection on a blackberry phone. Perhaps that is why smileys don't register.

Blackberry phone? That sounds like a vitaminized green connection. That and the cat catching caterpillar make you the true environmentalist.

It does? Okay then.

Seems like twosleepy switched off completey from this topic where lots of creative minds tried at least the best they had.
From tomorrow the lights will be focussed on Vancouver! Be seeing you, Zed!

No, I didn't! Just got busy, as usual... :0)

I Love the Name in your photo. I AM doubtful that you are too sleepy at all.
Posted By: twosleepy Re: Looking for a name... - 02/16/10 05:02 AM
Thanks, Joanie. It's an internet name I created 11 years ago when I first started using the internet regularly. I had twin infants, and a 5 year-old, hence the appellation. And back then, yes, I was VERY sleepy much of the time! :0)

Avy, I understood and enjoyed your suggestion. And yes, your smiley face did show up (at least on my Firefox browser). smile
Posted By: Avy Re: Looking for a name... - 02/17/10 01:10 AM
Thanks. smile I miss using the smiley icon. I realise now how depedent I was on it to change the entire meaning of a sentence. I can't find an exact substitue for it. Har har and hehe aren't quite right.

You might be able to negotiate for the right to use heh.

Yes, you too could become known as His Exalted Highness.

Ha, No I just googled 'heh' and that was one of the defs.

But with that pic...?
Posted By: Avy Re: Looking for a name... - 02/19/10 01:21 AM
Okay I've decided to use heh instead of a smiley. Sorry Buf. I've stolun it. You should've sold your copyright. It was making you no money anyway. Heh! Stolun it may be, but it feels so good to be able to laugh after so long. Heh! (Oh sorrry. I forgot to sign it) Avy's heh! There that looks good doesn't it? Buf? Buf who? He was stupid enough to enjoy the 'joy' in creation. What's creation? It is not coloured green. My heh is G R E E N and I can count it. Heh!

Levron. Definitely--it sounds all ooh-ahhy

Source: My own novel

Levron raises my attention somewhat. Not sure why but it has an essence about it.
Posted By: twosleepy Re: Looking for a name... - 11/18/11 07:37 PM
Boo!

Oh, that was a few weeks ago.... anyhoo...

I just thought I'd mention what name they decided to go with (despite some of my nice suggestions...) drum roll, please............ OLEDWorks. Exciting, isn't it? Well, not everyone feels creative names are the best way to go, I guess. But, on the other hand, they have have found all the financial backers they needed and have incorporated and officially hired all the people that have been working for over a year without any contract, including my hubby. Let's just hope the whole thing will take off and make some money for everyone... :0)

What about LIGHT GO

The word is highlighted in green to emphasize play on word "green light". What do you do on a green light - go.....

Really... How can an "end of the line" light product get its energy source from what you claim will power it?

First, you'll have to install those "special wall outlets," right next to the AC outlets and then pray until you see the light.

Maybe get a bunch of saints with those glowy things around their heads. If it takes off, have the Pope name about a bazillion new saints. Come to think of it, anyone named a saint would have their own headlight and wouldn't have a need for your product.

And what in the world is not residential or commercial? Those two cover about everything on the planet except North Korea, Outer Mongolia and that creepy dude who lives across town on Bicycle Graveyard Lane.
