Der Quibblemeister says this is a lousy mangled pretentious
metaphor. It falsely implies a machine made criterion of high accuracy.

Well, a lot of metaphors are pretentious. I wouldn't have thought it implied that high a level of accuracy, however. But what do I know?

And Fraunhofer learned to identify elements in solar
spectra by dark lines. Gotta go look that up.
