It took me a mere moment of going to Wikiquote to find what seems to be today's quote of the day with a proper citation.
------------------------

If you want to have good ideas you must have many ideas. Most of them will be wrong, and what you have to learn is which ones to throw away.
As quoted by Francis Crick in his presentation "The Impact of Linus Pauling on Molecular Biology" (1995)

Welcome, g r. But, but: today's Quote is: The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas. At least acc'g. to the e-mail I got.

methinks what he's saying is that today's quote is a misquote!

The way it was presented in the email it sure is!

I found it, as given, attributed to Dr. Linus Pauling, on both The Quotations Page (darned ad) and here, as well as on Quotations Book and a blog that refers to it as the Pauling Principle.

ah, so it's widely misquoted.

quote the first (AWAD) = 641gh
quote the 2nd (wiki) = 179,000gh

edit: here's another paraphrase that pops up:
Have a million ideas and throw out the bad ones.

Here's another paraphrase:

It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Posted By: Faldage Re: Quote of the Day: Feb 29 2012 - 03/02/12 12:17 PM
Or either that or:

Good ideas?!

We ain' got no good ideas!

We don' need no good ideas!

I don' have to give you any steenkeen good ideas!

Too many ideas from too many people for a too small world.

don't get any bright ideas!

Laws-a-mercy! No dim bulbs here, that's fer sure.

Didn't get a chance to get back online till now.

Thanks everyone.

So, it seems like this 'quote' has many versions. I presume I found the actual quote with the correct cite.

As I have started to do each day and since for the days quote of the day and search for the full and proper citations, it is not always possible! Very frustrating. Most sites only give attributions and not proper citations.

The scholar in me doesn't like attributions!
