For the cleverest and most entertaining use of this word I've ever seen, I refer everyone to _The Shortest Way to Hades_ by the late lamented Sarah Caudwell. Her Oxford don and sometime sleuth Professor Hilary Tamar uses the concept of haplography to solve the murder! Or should that be the murderer...

(And if you've never read Sarah Caudwell before, you are in for a rare treat. Yes, even those of you who don't think you like detective fiction. Caudwell is in a league of her own.)
