Does anyone know of a good book or reference in the web where these 'words about words' have been collected and explained?
Is Trask, R.L. 1993, A Dictionary of Grammatical terms in Linguistics, Routeledge, the kind of thing you had in mind? I think not, exactly, though you may find some of the terms in there.

If not, it may well be part of the answer to my question (Primer), so thanks P!
Hi pgrew, and welcome to the board. I'm sure that Jackie, our resident one-person greeting committee
will greet you too.
Had a look at your homepage - and you obviously belong here as well.
To oblige you, C.K., I certainly welcome pgrew aBoard.
I'll bet we hear some interesting things from him.
Note, though--I'm backing off that a little, esp. where others have beaten me to it. Someone pointed out that that is part of why my number of posts is so high, and I'd really rather not have people thinking that's why I'm doing it. Blabbermouth out.
Don't let others' opinions worry you, sweetie. Our resident maven should
not be suppressed by would-be censors!
