The Gatling gun, the forerunner of the machinegun,was a dozen or more gun barrels mounted on a rotary "cylinder" that could fire the guns in rapid succession. Interesting that the inventor's name is that of a very old bit of armor:

Gatlings: The small joint defense on a finger gauntlet, usually attached to a leather or canvas base by sewing or by rivets.
