"dress circle tickets" in his pocket.

Stalls = Ground floor, Dress Circle = First balcony
Uppers = Second balcony

The second balcony is frequently called "the gods" where I come from!

Or peanut gallery in small old movie theaters. I remember having read that many small movie theaters made greater
